Hallo, kann man die Transienten in Ableton 8 irgendwie ausschalten ? Also da war das warpen mit 7 schon besser,wenn man im Arrangement seine Mixe manuell erstellt.lol

@CLTD Is it really so unusable? I have no problems at all with it. Haven’t tried ReWire recently but i suppose it works fine. I have Mac OS 10.5.6 running on MacBook Pro 17″ with 2,16GHz and 4GB RAM.

Nice review, what a pity that Live 8 behave on Mac Os like huge, overpriced virus :grrr: Unstable, CPU hogging, can’t handle with ReWire well, occasionally drop outs etc etc. I’ll stick to 7, but unfortunatelly paid for 8 already.

@Kyle I see, i see. I already think about doing some tricking to save the signal from being lost. I don't think auto-routing is done by other applications. Logic, for example, uses it's busses for sidechaining. They are always there. Just grab them where you need them and you're ready to go.

@Paul The price is quite high, but it was like that in all the last program versions. You could stick with 7 and update to 9 when it comes out. :)

I do have a problem with the price of the upgrade…$189 upgrade without going to the Suite. The Suite price seems more reasonable, but still steep. I love the program, don’t get me wrong, but the price may keep me in Live 7 for awhile longer.

I think I see the question — this is the part that is counterintuitive about the way ableton does it. If you don’t want to lose the audio (i.e. most of the time, sidechaining a kick to a compressor or something), you need to set up an intermediate track that takes the audio from the original track, and sends the audio to the sidechain. The original track will still send audio to the master track or whatever. This routing configuration is what other hosts do behind the scenes for you. It is just a fact about routing in Live that to send audio to multiple destinations (aside from sends) you have to use audio from, instead of audio to, and since plugin sidechains don’t have have their own audio from box in ableton’s interface, you have to set up this kind of track. Their builtin plugins that do sidechaining do have this kind of box in Live’s interface, making it easier to set up. This routing configuration can also be useful for using your own processing on the sidechain input.

Hi Kyle, thanks for you effort answering again in detail. The described technique is sort of a hack to me. Since in normal Sidechaining you don't lose your audio signal.

I know that it's already working like that but i use Logic Pro, too. When loading Sonalksis Plugins i can really input an external audio signal, like in the included Plugins, into, let's say, Compressors Sidechain.

Do i get something wrong?

I’ve basically never had any problems with sidechaining. The trickiness is just making sure the track routing is set up right (it can be a little counterintuitive until you’ve done it once). I’ve seen some very thorough instructions for setting it up, that I can’t find right now, but here are some from wavearts’ site that are actually general: http://wavearts.com/support/faq/category/trackplug-sidechain/

I really think it might be a problem with sonalksis in particular that you are experiencing. There have historically been some problems with it (http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3298768) and in that thread sonalksis support is pretty convinced it should work. I recommend you try it with another plugin that is known to work (pro-c demo might be a good one).
