My last post, describing how to work with time in AppleScript was really just the outcome of a snippet I’d like to have for TextMate and then afterwards, quasi globally.
The TextMate version was also my first, ever(!), Python script.

Recently I needed to do some time calculations with AppleScript. So I messed around with do shell script, date and lastly found date and time objects. So if you ever need to work with time in AppleScript here’s a tutorial for you.

I’m taking a break. My usual December/January break wasn’t that “breaky” this year. So I’m taking a couple of weeks off in August. I think that’s a well deserved break!

Some friends already know that I am working on a new business. The “pure” audio engineer days seem finally gone. As time evolves, so do I, so do my activities, business, and services. It’s probably no wonder to many that my new service is based on doing screencasts.
Although, my service will clearly start off with screencasting, I can see myself being useful in many areas for other people/companies.
Now that I got very positive feedback I can finally start talking about it.

For me, as a foreigner, I learn new vocabulary every day. (And no, I don’t mean any curse words…) The process of learning new words was always a bit awkward. I had to start a special program and then learn or have to have that program running in the background. Things I typically am not doing. So I came up with another solution which involves tools I’m using all day – Keyboard Maestro, GeekTool, and Growl.
Disclaimer: Although this solution was exclusively setup to work with Keyboard Maestro it will also work with GeekTool and/or Growl and GeekTool!

Since I’m living in London I started realizing how unfriendly we Germans sound. Especially when requesting features or submitting bugs we tend to get (very) upset, which makes us sound even more unfriendly.
For my assumption so far, this misbehaviour could be easily fixed bychanging order.

A long time ago on Mac OS X Screencasts, I did a review on Mail Act-On, MailTags and MiniMail. (1, 2, and 3).
A couple of days ago I was trying to reduce the amount of spam coming in. Well more reducing the amount of spam I see. To do that I created a filter in GMail which says
((sender1) OR (sender2) OR (sender3)) as sender and has the words is:spam in them. Works pretty well.
Unfortunately not in Mail, but with a little trick even Mail.app can handle such nested mail filters.

Bodega has had a “long” Beta phase. Since August 2009 last year the application was considered Beta. Many people rumored about Bodega, the App Store for desktop applications.
Today version 1.0 has been released by freshcode.

Many may know that I’m a German. Although I’m from Germany my computer’s keyboard layout is switched to English.
This has several reasons. First of all some of the languages I’m writing in rely heavily on characters like [, ], {, or }. All these characters are very complicated to type on a German keyboard. (eg ⌥7 for [, I think)
During this weekend I got annoyed by the fact I’m sending out so many emails without Umlauts. And because I’m preparing almost all emails in TextMate this seemed like a perfect weekend project.
You can download a free Bundle for TextMate which replaces your often needed words with predefined ones.
